If you want to take a day trip out of town during your stay, there are plenty of nice places to visit nearby.

1. Hallstatt

approx. 1 hour by car from Salzburg

A visit to Hallstatt's World Heritage Site is definitely worthwhile. The picturesque lakeside village impresses with its historic buildings and wonderful views. Stroll through the village, visit the village shops and buy some local salt. You can then have lunch at one of the many lakeside restaurants. After dinner, we recommend a walk up the hill to the famous chapel, with views of the entire village.

2. #Lakelife

approx. 30 - 45 minutes by car from Salzburg.

The many lakes in the province of Salzburg are an enchanting highlight of every visit, oases where locals also like to spend their weekends. You can choose between Mondsee (where you can rent an electric boat), Fuschlsee (where you can drive past Red Bull's headquarters, a worthwhile destination in itself - and another option for renting a boat for private relaxation on the lake, or Lake Wolfgang (with St. Wolfgang and St. Gilgen as two places of interest right on the lakeside). And don't forget your bathing suit if you want to jump into the crystal-clear water!

3. Eisriesenwelt

approx. 45 minutes by car from Salzburg

Visit the largest ice cave in the world, right on our doorstep. After you have arrived at the parking lot in the middle of the pass road, take the cable car up to the entrance, where you can visit the largest ice cave in the world. The ice cave, discovered in the 19th century, stretches over 40 km and is absolutely impressive.

4. Königssee

approx. 30 minutes by car from Salzburg

Lake Königssee is one of the most attractive day trips from Salzburg. Once at the lake, you will find a small village with souvenir shops and the breathtaking lake, which is precisely described as “the fjord of Bavaria”, with impressive mountains on both sides. And in any case, don't miss the boat trip across the lake, where the skipper in the middle impressively demonstrates the echo with a trumpet. By the way, Sankt Bartholomä is only accessible by boat and is a great place for your lunch break.

5. Schafberg-Hike

approx. 45 minutes by car from Salzburg

There are so many great hiking trails in Salzburg, and many of them are also suitable for less experienced hikers. However, if you want to get a taste of hiking in the Alps, the Schafberg is a good option. Not only because of the breathtaking views and the not too difficult terrain (although it's pretty steep at the top), but also because of the great mountain hut, where you can treat yourself to a hearty snack. Start your hike in St. Wolfgang (park your car there in the large parking lot) - and if you prefer an easier way to get back, you can always take the cogwheel train down from the summit to the parking lot.
